Bathing House

The Bathing House

A simple hideaway where you leave the world behind you and unwind.

Built in the 1770s, at the same time as Sharpham House, the Bathing House was created on a bend in the river, below the main House.

It has one main living room, a beautiful bedroom with balcony overlooking the River Dart, a kitchen, a bathroom, a utility room and a sofa-bed in the lounge. Outside, a patio running the whole frontage of the Bathing House overlooks the water. Guests have reported seeing amazing wildlife close up – including otters feeding on fish in the River Dart.

Burial ground

The Natural Burial Ground

With stunning views of the River Dart and across the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sharpham Meadow Natural Burial Ground offers an ecological alternative to traditional burial or cremation and is open to all – regardless of faith or local residency, whether you are using a funeral director or not, having a religious ceremony, a secular ceremony, or no ceremony at all. Ashes can be interred here as well as burials.

The site is cared for as a hay meadow, hence the grass is allowed to grow long and cut periodically. Only simple flat headstones are permitted.

Venue hire

Venue hire

We welcome groups looking to hire indoor or outdoor spaces for residential programmes, particularly where those groups support the principles of the Sharpham Trust.

Sharpham House offers a very different experience to staying in a hotel. You and your colleagues can stay in a beautiful Grade I-listed property, which also has the relaxing, informal atmosphere of a family home.

You can also hire The Coach House – a converted Georgian courtyard – with 18 single rooms and an exceptional glass and timber extension providing a wonderful, light-filled space.

Or hire Sharpham House and The Coach House together.

The Sharpham Estate – now certified organic – is set in a majestic location high above the River Dart. The house and gardens exude a sense of peace and tranquillity with exquisite views in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
