Walk Overview
This out-and-back walk explores the gritstone escarpment of Stanage Edge – one of the most famous landmarks in the Peak District National Park.
Stanage is one of the top climbing and bouldering locations in Britain. With gritstone crags providing easy access to multiple short climbs along Stanage’s 4-mile length, plus huge views over the Dark Peak area and the Hope Valley, this is one of the wildest and most dramatic landscapes in England.
You can start your route in the popular walkers’ village of Hathersage – full of great pubs and gear shops – or start closer to Stanage in the parking spot near Robin Hood’s Cave.
The walk up to the Edge is simple enough, but take care as you traverse the escarpment so you don’t topple off!
This route was voted 35th in a 2017 ITV poll to find Britain’s Favourite Walk.
TOG VERDICT: Explore a wild gritstone escarpment with panoramic views across the famous Dark Peak landscape of Derbyshire. Hill walking perfection!
