The first signs of autumn are beginning to peek through as we move into September. The TOG team love this season – cold crisp mornings, the changing colours of the landscape and drawing in of the long nights. It is the perfect season to be outdoors. September is the month too where all around the UK there are celebrations going on for Disability Awareness Week, September 6-12th With this is mind we are pleased to promote a countryside for all and to share with you seven of our favourite stile free walks around the UK.
Malham Tarn – Yorkshire Dales
At Malham Tarn there is an all-terrain mobility scooter available to hire from the National Trust Estate Office so that you can enjoy a four-mile stroll around the limestone landscape of the Yorkshire Dales.
Blue Pool – Dorset
Follow the track through the enchanted forest at Blue Pool, Dorset, keeping a careful look out for the fairy houses and tree elves. The sight of the Blue Pool is truly spectacular. It’s a great walk for all the family.
Penrose – Cornwall
This walk through the ancient woodland follows the track alongside The Loe – Cornwall’s largest freshwater lake, to Loe Bar, where the lake is separated from the North Atlantic Sea by a stretch of golden beach.
Damflask – Sheffield
Only 10 minutes from Sheffield city centre is Damflask reservoir. A stroll around this stretch of water is a must. The scenery is so beautiful. A great ‘get away spot’ from the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s no wonder Sheffield is known as The Outdoor City.
Cairngorms – Scotland
Now if you want a Scottish Highland adventure then we suggest a visit to Cairngorm. Cairn Gorm is the 6th highest mountain in the UK and stands proud overlooking Strathspey and the town of Aviemore. There is a good rangers track to follow which lead up to the Ptarmigon. (now closed). The views are totally breath taking.
Thornham – Norfolk
We are off to Norfolk for a coastal walk through the golden sand dunes from Thornham to Old Hunstanton. When the tide is out the marshland is huge and there’s an abundance of wildlife to watch out for. This coastline is often referred to as the birdwatching capital of England and it’s easy to see why it’s been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Roath Park Lake accessible walk, Cardiff
Roath Park and Lake is set in the heart of Cardiff. There are miles of wheelchair accessible pathways to explore around the lake and botanical gardens and a great way to spend a family day outdoors.
