Cliveden Accessible Walk
Built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a gift for his mistress, Cliveden House is now a five star, award winning hotel. The 376 acres of magnificent Grade I listed formal gardens and woodlands are managed by the National Trust.
Our walk today is great for all the family – including those in pushchairs and wheelchairs. What’s more – dogs are welcome too!
We’re following a circular route – starting in the main car park. We’re heading out in a mainly anti-clockwise direction but you could go the other way if you wished.
First stop on our walk is the water garden and maze. From here we then head west, past the Fountain of Love, down the Long Garden and on to the Blenheim Pavilion. Next stop is to the path overlooking the River Thames and the amazing views out across the Buckinghamshire countryside.
As we get to the Tortoise Fountain, we skirt around the Parterre Garden and back up towards the main house. We’re going around the side of house and following the Grand Avenue back towards where we began.
If you’re in need of some refreshments after your walk there are plenty of options – within the grounds there’s a refreshment kiosk and the Conservatory Café. Or you may wish to step into the hotel for afternoon tea in The Cliveden Dining Room or something a little stronger in the Library Bar.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
