Walk Details
We absolutely love the Secret Garden walk at How Hill. It starts off as a lovely little woodland walk and tucked away further on is the Secret Garden itself – a beautiful little boarded walk with water features, streams, amazing plants, seats and old trees. The kids thought it was fantastic!
The Secret Garden walk is also really accessible for pushchairs and its short length means it’s great for toddlers too. There are other lovely routes around the area to explore for longer walks – including the beautiful Toad Hole Cottage along the paths next to the River Ant.
Open between April and October, this is a tiny marshman’s cottage which was a home for a whole family in Victorian times. In the ‘bijou’ museum you can see how they lived and the tools that were used for working on the marshes, as well as information about the Broads and How Hill.
We parked at the main car park (not the one at the house which is reserved for guests) – the walk starts just behind the house. Entry and parking is free but any donations are welcome. Dogs are allowed (on leads) but beware that there are no bins!

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
