Walk Details
Hello, I am Charlie Sim, retired engineer living in the Scottish Borders town of Peebles. I love walking and being outdoors – and I’m delighted to be sharing some of my favourite walks here with you.

I started this walk at a point along the River Tweed, it’s straight along the river path from Kings Meadow car park. This is part of a local short walk called the three bridges and can be accessed from anywhere in town. This is a medium level walk with some rough terrain so appropriate footwear and clothing. Be prepared for weather changes that are not always reflected in forecast apps!

We start off along the path to Fotheringham Bridge, at this point we take a left to South Park Road up a small track.

At the top of the track we take a right up the public road to the top of the hill where there’s a path on your left – follow this all the way past the gate through the field until you reach a style and a gate. Please note that there’s a 90 degree bend at the first gate at the end of the houses, it’s not this gate for this walk (however you can go this way see my YouTube film for details).

Proceed along the path along the stone wall till you reach the road. Turn right heading downhill to the car park. This is Manor Sware car park, from here you will see a path uphill into the forest. There are three routes that take you to the same point.

Left will get some good views of Peebles, straight ahead through the forest or the route we take to the right. Follow this round to come to a woodland strip between two fields, head straight through here to the stone wall and style. (Alternative route if you don’t like the dense woodland is to go into the field on your right and stick to the edge of the wall).

When we get over the style or follow the wall you will see tracks straight across towards the power lines. This brings you onto the John Buchan way (Peebles,Cademuir, Lyne Station circular route). Here you have a choice: head right up the hill straight ahead, or go around on the path to the edge of Cademuir and follow the wall uphill (this is the route shown).

Once at the top there’s a gate that leads onto forest tracks, this is the pilots trail. (I took a short detour for the video to the top of the hill, this is shown on the route map).

As you approach the path you can go either way, I took the longer right hand option. You follow this all the way down to the car park. There is a picnic bench at the top of Cademuir – a great spot on a clear day to admire the view whilst having any refreshments you’ve brought with you.

At the car park head straight across. Follow this path to Tantha House – this is part of the Peebles, Cademuir, Haystoun Circular walk.

Follow the path down to Edderstone Road and proceed downhill to the mini roundabout, where you take a left then immediately right and then go straight ahead. You will see a path between two houses, this takes you back to the River Tweed and the start point. Enjoy!

This walk has multiple variables for shorter or longer walks, see video for alternative routes and the links above to the two other routes – you could combine parts for different walks.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
