Walk Details
The Yorkshire Dales is an area steeped in lead mining history. This walk takes us to the small village of Grinton and the remains of the Grinton Lead Smelting Mill.
Whilst we’re only going to do a short walk – you can extend the walk as you wish based on the time you have available and your ability.
From the parking a finger post points you in the direction of the mill. When you reach the mill you’ll find information boards giving you more information about the history of this part of the Yorkshire Dales. This is also a great place for a picnic with amazing views.
Access TOG Verdict:
There are steep parts to the path (1:6 gradient for a short part). The track is compounded aggregate and uneven which can make pushing a wheelchair challenging in places. With an all terrain chair there should be no issues. It’s also possible to access the remains of the mill in a wheelchair.
The nearest accessible toilets are in Reeth (RADAR scheme).
Parking: From Reeth follow the B6270. When you reach the small village of Grinton, turn left towards Leyburn. There is off road parking available at the beginning of the bridleway.
Nearest Train (or tube) Station(s):
Kirkby Stephen, Darlington
