Hello Toggers!

Sunshine, strolls and outdoor fun for all the family

Enjoying the sunshine

I love this time of year. The cold of the winter is far behind us and the sun offers us more hours of her warmth each day. Especially this past week – unheard of on a bank holiday weekend!

Every morning I like to sit outside and feel the sun on my skin – it’s a beautiful way to start the day. More than that – it also helps regulate my circadian rhythm, triggers the production of Vitamin D and helps release serotonin, the mood boosting hormone – and all it takes is a few minutes every day.

As National Walking Month comes to a close, I hope you’ve been able to walk out as often as possible … and that you continue to do so. If you need some extra encouragement to get outside more … do read on!

The Tissington Trail

The Tissington Trail

This week we’re headed to the southern Peak District for a lovely 5km walk known as the Tissington Trail that packs a punch with some steepish climbs. If it’s been raining – there are places on the walk that can get very muddy so make sure you’re wearing suitable footwear!

Walkers are always sure of a warm welcome at the Bike & Boot Peak District. With a dedicated area for you to clean off any muddy kit, a professional dog grooming room and free hot drinks and cake at teatime – you won’t want to leave!

HF Holidays Walking and Activity Holidays

Hooray for HF Holidays

A huge thank you to our friends at HF Holidays, Britain’s only walking holiday collective, for funding 100 sets of waterproofs and wellies for ten primary schools across the country.

The first to receive their kits were the children at Freshwater & Yarmouth CE Primary School on the Isle of Wight. The school uses outdoor spaces for nature based learning, gardening and play. Thanks to this generous donation these activities are now available to all children, no matter the weather.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation. Outdoor learning and nature exploration are vital parts of our curriculum, and this contribution will significantly enhance these experiences. It ensures that every single pupil can get stuck into muddy, hands-on learning without hesitation, fostering their curiosity and love for the environment.”

Callum McCarty, Outdoor Learning Lead, Freshwater & Yarmouth CE Primary School.

As children head back to school for the final half term of the school year, we’re already looking ahead to the next school year, raising funds to provide more primary school aged children the opportunity to benefit from outdoor learning and play in all weathers.
