In The Spirit of Wainwright: Coast to Coasting in an All-Terrain Wheelchair

Debbie North & Andy North

foreword by Julia Bradbury
Having been told as a child she should have been born in a field by her dad, Debbie North’s love of fellwalking really truly blossomed when she met her husband, Andy, a keen hillwalker himself.

From a childhood spent following outdoor pursuits in and around the Peak District, Debbie suddenly found herself in the midst of hills, dales and mountains. But in 2008, she was diagnosed with spinal degeneration and was no longer able to walk the hills she loves so much.

Andy refused to go exploring without his walking partner because it didn’t feel right. After a spell of feeling sorry for themselves, Debbie and Andy teamed up with TerrainHopper, makers of a 4×4 all-terrain wheelchair, so they could get out into the countryside again. With their hiking boots on and TerrainHopper charged and ready to go, they travelled coast to coast across the North of England, in the spirit of Wainwright.

“Debs has written a great book and I was delighted when she asked if I could write the foreword. She really has hit the nail on the head, the inaccessible should of course be accessible to all! Well done Debs.”
