Let’s Get Ready to … Hurtle! Start.jpg The Hathersage Hurtle is an exciting trail race for runners and walkers, covering 20 miles of the finest Peak District countryside.  Starting and ending in the idyllic village of Hathersage, the beautiful route uses the trails, paths and country lanes of the Hope Valley.  It takes competitors across Eyam Moor and Shatton Moor, along the Thornhill Trail, under Bamford Edge, over the iconic heights of Stanage Edge and Burbage, and through parts of the National Trust estates at Longshaw and Padley Gorge, before returning to Hathersage.   As well as the stunning views, competitors can expect a fully marked and marshalled route, with electronic dibbers provided, and food/drink stations at selected points.  There are also professional photographers along the way, and photographs of competitors are provided free of charge.  There are great prizes for the winners in various categories, as well as home-made cakes and local beer at the finish point!   Now in its second year, the Hathersage Hurtle is a fund-raising event for the village primary school, and last year contributed a significant amount to help with the cost of repairs to the school roof.  It is already a much-loved event in the area, and those taking part in the race will enjoy lots of enthusiastic local support.  There is a great atmosphere at the finish point, with live music and stalls from our sponsors, as well as local food and drink.   On the way.jpeg Don’t just take our word for it – here’s just a selection of what last year’s entrants had to say about the Hathersage Hurtle …  “Excellent event.  Really well organised and super friendly.  Well done to all involved.  Thanks for a grand day out”  “Absolutely loved it.  Wonderful support from all the volunteers, great course, brilliant marshalling.  Will definitely be back next year.  Thank you to everyone involved.”  “Wow, what a beautiful course!  Big thanks to the organisers and volunteers.  Can’t wait to come back and do it all again!” This year the race is on Saturday 19 May.  Entry costs only £18 and is strictly limited to 400 runners and 100 walkers, with places already going quickly.  To make your own Hathersage Hurtle memories, please go to www.hathersagehurtle.com to join in the fun.  We can’t wait to cheer you on!
