As part of my business where2walk, I have been running one day navigation courses for many years (for Beginners and Intermediates) and they have always been popular and successful. However sometimes the day is not long enough. There is much to learn but more important much to practice on what you do learn.

As a result I recently introduced our weekend two day course: Learn a Skill, Climb a Hill which hopefully does what it says on the tin.

Time to Learn
On Day 1 we spend the day learning about interpreting Ordnance S maps, using them to plan a walk and understanding how much more enjoyable a walk is with an understanding of the map. In the afternoon we are out and about learning a little about how and when to use a compass and what to do if you are lost or concerned. In the evening we will plan the next days walk.

On Day 2 we will use the plans and the members of the group will lead a climb up one of the local mountains. By the end of the day everyone will have gained a lot of confidence in their own ability to plan and lead a walk whatever the conditions.

Beautiful Settings in the Dales or Lakes
We have two venues for the Learn a Skill weekends:

      1. The Herdwick Inn in the Northern Lakes near Keswick | Weekends of April 25/26th and June 27/28th
      2. The Tennants Arms in the Central Dales near Grassington | Weekends of May 9/10th and Oct 10/11th

Format of the weekend
The group size will be between 6 and 12 people which means there is plenty of time for individual attention. The number of people also makes for a sociable group. On the Saturday evening (after planning the next day’s walk) there will be a meal in the pub to discuss all things walking!

The price is £145 per person and includes the training from myself and plus packed lunches. Accommodation is extra and should be booked direct with the pub venue (or elsewhere if you would like. We will meet at 9am on the Saturday morning and finish at roughly 5pm on Sunday.
