Hello Toggers!

Introducing my new podcast

Windy Walks

As October dawns, so does the weather. This is the time of year we can expect unsettled and windy weather coming in off the Atlantic. Whilst we’ve longed for cool breezes over the hot summer months, now we’re not always that happy when the winds blow.

There have been various studies carried out about the effect of walking in windy conditions on the body. The wind provides a natural resistance as we walk into it – our muscles brace, our legs and chest muscles are more engaged and we can feel our lungs working so much harder. However, when we walk with the wind behind us, it’s our abdominal and core muscles that are put to work as we try to maintain balance. Either way – you’re getting an amazing work out!

Care should be taken if you are walking in windy conditions – keep well away from cliff edges and steep ridges, wear sunglasses if it’s dusty, wrap up well and drink plenty of water (wind walking can dehydrate you quicker than normal).

A Stroll Around Peebles

A Stroll Around Peebles

This week our walk takes us to the Scottish Borders region, to the historic market town of Peebles. This circular walk is around 4 miles in length and takes us from Peebles to Cademuir and Haystoun.

We’ll be staying at the Peebles Hydro – a beautiful spa hotel that serves delicious locally sourced food.
