Autumn Equinox
Next week will mark the autumn equinox – it’s the half way point between the longest day of the summer solstice and the shortest day of the winter solstice. The hours of daylight will equal the hours of night before the earth tilts further on its axis and places the northern hemisphere into winter.
It’s a beautiful time of the year to get out. The daytime still has the warmth of the summer sun and the trees begin their annual display of colour. The natural world is starting to prepare for the colder, darker month ahead by letting go of what is no longer serving its purpose and that’s perhaps a lesson we can all take.
Beautiful Blakeney Point
The shingle spit of Blakeney Point National Nature Reserve showcases all that is great about the Norfolk coastline. In a couple of months time this will be a thriving seal colony, but now it’s a beautiful coastal walk. We’re staying just a short distance away at the National Trust’s Blakeney Lodge. In the shadow of an old windmill, this is a cosy two bedroom cottage on the edge of the salt marshes.
