Walk Details
Hello, I am Charlie Sim, retired engineer living in the Scottish Borders town of Peebles. I love walking and being outdoors – and I’m delighted to be sharing some of my favourite walks here with you.

This walk starts from the car park across from Haylodge Park.

Please be mindful during the late spring on this walk as it is lambing season here a bit later than down south. Also ground nesting birds, so stick to the tracks and if you have a dog with you – please keep them close and on a lead.

Before you set off – I’d recommend wearing boots and long trousers, and have walking poles with you if you need them.

Walk over the main Glasgow Road at the pelican crossing into Haylodge Park, then turn right and follow the path to the end where there’s a gate onto the Glasgow Road.

Cross over onto the track that leads up to Jedderston farm (be careful as you cross over the golf course). As you go through the gate follow the track, at the top turn to the left and then right into the forest, follow the small trail up to the main forest track.

Follow the track to a bend, the right track takes you to Hamilton Hill, however we are taking the left as this is a more gradual climb. As you go along you see a track to the left, we continue forward, this winds its way to the top. Keep a look out here – you may see some deer.

At the top keep following the path to a crossroads where we go left (the right takes you back to Jedderston, straight ahead to Hamilton Hill).

As you continue to follow the route, you will come to a communication tower with some great views. Go over the top towards Hamilton Hill and take time to enjoy the views.. As you watch aircraft approach Edinburgh Airport you’ll suddenly realise how high up you are!

Head towards the northeast, towards the turbines you can see. This brings you onto the Old Drove Road which will take you back to Peebles.

I went through the Rosetta Road caravan and campsite for safety. Follow Rosetta Road to the shop at Wemyss Place, on towards the graveyard and then take a right onto a path that will take you back to the start. Enjoy!

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
