We are the Woodland Trust, the country’s largest woodland conservation charity with more than 1,000 sites and 500,000 supporters. Our vision is a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife.

Trees and woods filter our air, cool our cities, purify our water and enrich our soil. They are places for fun and adventure. Yet the damage done to them has now reached worrying levels.

Just 13% of the UK is covered with trees. That’s low compared to the average European country, and half of our ancient woodland has also been destroyed. We stand to lose even more as airports, roads and railways expand, houses are built and diseases attack.

As a result, 60% of our animal and plant species have declined in the past 50 years. Many are endangered; some face extinction.

Because we believe life’s better with trees, we’ve spent 45 years fighting to save woods and trees under threat. We’ve helped restore ancient woods to their former glory. And we’ve created acres beautiful new woodland.

But there’s still work to be done. Over the next ten years we have ambitious plans to develop and extend our work even further.

This means planting in news ways to strengthen our landscapes – developing hedgerows, preventing flooding and demonstrating how trees can help our farmers. We also want to celebrate street trees and help our cities become greener.

There are so many ways to help us and get involved, whether that’s visiting one of woods, planting trees with us, volunteering, or recording the changing seasons. Come and explore with us.
